GoodSAM Responder
GoodSAM Responder connects volunteer community responders to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) that help people in cardiac arrest.
Developed in the United Kingdom and used in countries around the world, Nova Scotia adopted GoodSAM Responder in 2024 to support the Emergency Health Services AED Registry Program, and the Volunteer Community Responder Program.
These initiatives, supported by GoodSAM Responder, contribute to saving lives of people in Nova Scotia who experience a cardiac arrest.
If you’re an AED owner, you can register your device with the EHS AED Registry Program and use the GoodSAM Responder app to monitor the status of your device and if maintenance is needed.
If you choose to become a volunteer community responder, you will use the GoodSAM Responder app to be notified when there is a cardiac arrest near you to provide CPR or use the nearest AED.
GoodSAM Responder means anyone can become a volunteer community responder without training, as AED units are intended to be used by anyone. They include simple instructions, often voice commands and prompts, that tell you what to do, how to do it and when.
